Assistive Cup Holder
Human Factors Engineering & Assistive Technology Project Focusing on Helping Children Communicate Medical Needs

In this project, we focused on designing for one specific client, a wheelchair user, to ensure our solution truly met real-world needs. We began by interviewing him to understand his daily routines, challenges, and frustrations with holding and accessing drinks while on the move. Through these conversations, we uncovered key user needs:
Stability and security for cups of different sizes
Easy reach and accessibility from a seated position
Durability and lightweight materials suitable for daily use
Using these insights, we tailored our design to his requirements. We created low-fidelity sketches and prototypes to explore ideas, then refined the solution with 3D-printed models for testing. Each iteration incorporated feedback from our client, ensuring the final product was both practical and user-friendly, addressing his specific challenges rather than a generic wheelchair user’s needs.
